In this illustrated video, we show the professional installation of a Doma-Tech clamping cartridge on a pneumatic cylinder:

  • 0:06 – Clean piston rod.
  • 0:10 – Insert clamping cartridge.
  • 0:15 – Insert piston rod into clamping unit.
  • 0:22 – Secure with 4 screws.
  • 0:33 – Remove transport screw (piston rod fixed).
  • 0:38 – Connect compressed air.
Clamps

Precision-Positioning Locking Cartridges

Our locking cartridges are primarily used as functional clamping devices for the precise positioning and locking of machine and system components. They also prevent unintended movement.

Function

Reliable locking is maintained over extended periods, even under changing loads, fluctuations in operating pressure, and leakage. The clamping force is released by applying pressure to the locking cartridge. Our locking cartridges can be installed in any orientation. They are designed to hold components only when stationary.

  • While pressure is applied: the clamp remains open.
  • If the pressure drops: the clamp closes automatically.
  • The piston rod is securely locked by friction.
  • The cylinder stops immediately, regardless of the load or direction of movement.

Safety information

  • In the event of a pressure drop, our locking cartridges and locking units provide functional safety based on the fail-safe principle.

    When our systems are installed and used in accordance with the specifications, the piston rod is automatically locked if the air pressure in the pneumatic system falls below 3 bar.

    When correctly sized and properly integrated, the Domatech locking cartridge meets the safety requirements of ISO 4414 in the event of a pressure drop.

    Please refer to our technical specifications for the holding forces. These correspond to the maximum thrust force of the respective cylinder at 8 bar.

Components

Position-precise locking units

The locking unit, also known as a clamping unit, can be mounted directly on ISO 15552 and ISO 6432 cylinders. It can be integrated into existing systems using an extended piston rod without requiring extensive modifications. The units operate mechanically and are maintenance-free.

Function

The locking unit is suitable for various types of round material, including chrome-plated steel rods, stainless-steel rods, and guide rods. Suitable adapter solutions are available for connection to cylinders. Thanks to the powerless-brake principle, the clamping force is reliably maintained even in the event of a power failure, thereby increasing the operational safety of the system.

Locking cartridges

Areas of
­application

Locking cartridges from Doma-Tech Mainardi AG operate according to the principle of form-fit and/or force-fit clamping. They enable pneumatic cylinders and round rods to be securely held in any axial position. In the event of pressure loss – caused by leaks, hose rupture, or power failure – the piston rod is immediately locked. This prevents uncontrolled cylinder extension and reduces the risk of component damage or hazards within the working area.
